Limits are used when you can't directly solve a problem. Now we have 2 types of limits. Limits that approach a certain number, and limits that approach infinity.

With this, you can see that the limit as (x^2-1)/(x-1) as x approaches 1 is 2.
The other method is to substitute the number x is approaching into the original equation.
WARNING: Be VERY careful when substituting, because in some cases, it will give you 0, and it could be wrong. If you do get 0 as an answer, try to simplify it from the beginning and try again, if it doesn't work, try the x and y chart method!
